Welcome
The Idaho Bovine Veterinary Experience Program (IBVEP) is designed to expose veterinary students to Idaho's large scale cattle facilities and management (year one) and then to mentoring by practicing food animal veterinarians (year two). Each participant will spend six weeks during the summer working on a dairy farm or local food animal veterinary practice. Housing will be arranged on the farm, or at the University of Idaho Caine Veterinary Teaching or by the participants. The student is to be a worker in training, and is expected to rotate and be trained into all areas including delivering calves, calf raising, milking, feeding, treating sick cows, record keeping, preventive medical programs, and assisting the veterinarian during visits to the farm. Students enrolled in the IBVEP will receive a $2500.00 scholarship for their efforts during each year of the program. They are not required to be compensated by the collaborating dairies or veterinary clinics.
